 So you want to learn how to skate!   You have come to the right place.  The Basic Skills is a program will help you learn all the fundamentals of skating.  It’s   simply the best way to start your child on the road to skating.  Basic Skills is a program designed by U.S. Figure Skating to be the best beginning ice skating program that is fun, challenging and rewarding.  The curriculum is designed to keep skaters enthusiastic about learning from the time they begin lessons until the time they reach their goals.    Objective:  Fun and Safe skating experience for beginners and advanced, teach correct technique, coordination and balance.

The US Figure Skating Snowplow Sam Levels are to help the pre-school age skater develop preliminary coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice.  Our fun, friendly and knowledgeable instructors will allow children to become comfortable on the ice.

 EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:  Gloves / Jacket  (A BIKE HELMET IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED FOR THIS CLASS)

The US Figure Skating Basic Skills levels 1-8 are the fundamentals of the sport.  Students will learn fundamental moves –forward skating, backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, and Mohawks.  Upon completion of Basic 1-8 skaters will have the knowledge to advance to the more specialized areas of skating.

HOCKEY LEARN TO SKATE   (AGES 3 & UP)

The Hockey curriculum is designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating.  In 4 badge levels, skaters will learn to maneuver faster and be more agile on the ice.  All elements will be taught without a stick or puck as proper skating techniques are the primary focus of the levels.  Skaters will learn the necessary fundamentals to be successful in game situations.

Hockey 1: Proper stance, marching forward, forward gliding, dip, scooter pushes, forward swizzles, snowplow stop, backward skating.

Hockey 2: Backward stance, strides, one-foot glides, backward hustle, backward swizzles, glide turns, moving snowplow stops.

Hockey 3: Forward C-Cuts, hockey turns, forward slalom, forward stops & starts, backward V-stop, lateral marching crossovers.

Hockey 4: Forward one-foot pushes on a circle, forward crossovers, backward c-cuts, backward one foot glide, mohawk, hockey stop.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:  Helmet, Gloves, Shin Guards, Elbow Pads & Skates, A face mask is strongly suggested.

     Cross-Ice Program

Description: The Cross-Ice Hockey Program is based on the model of practicing and playing hockey across the ice surface as compared to practicing and playing lengthwise along the full length of the ice surface.  Players will learn the skills necessary to move up and play in a league while having an enjoyable time in a fun, exciting and competitive environment.

 The Objectives of the program are:

  Give every child a chance to play hockey and experience a feeling of success

  Create the same exciting and fun environment as in a “real” game

  Keep children excited and motivated to continue playing hockey

 STRUCTURE:  Tuesday: There will be 50-minutes of instruction Teams will be developed after a draft skate and will be based on the number of participants and age groups.  Wednesday: 50-minutes of cross-ice hockey.    Skaters will work on individual skating skills to enhance the ability to maneuver on the ice faster and more agile.
